The Central Issue
Finally, a topic that is of importance to all students in the country. Recently there has been an outcry over the setting of ‘sure fail’ exam papers for students, particularly those sitting for milestone examinations such as the PSLE, the O levels, and the A levels. Often these papers (sometimes more difficult than the milestone exam itself) would be given mere months before the exams, leading to a panic after the students [inevitably] do badly in it.

When confronted by parents with the erosion of self-confidence and discouragement of their children as a result of repeated failure, schools merely shrug and say ‘it’s to stretch the students’ minds, for their own good’, and ignore the matter. Is there something we should be concerned about?
